5 benefits for choosing a Smart Homes security system

11th February 2020

Home security systems have come a long way in recent years. Compared to traditional systems with limited capability, security systems are now smarter than ever before, keeping an eye on your home while you're asleep, out for the day or at home with the system disarmed. As well as protecting you better in emergencies, they come with new features and smart technology that old systems can't offer.

With security subscription plans starting from £10 a month and no long-term commitments, you can choose to monitor your home yourself with customisable notifications and emails.

Our intuitive mobile app, powerful cloud intelligence and a growing world of connected devices, puts you in control and keeps you connected to your home from anywhere, at any time. It's no exaggeration to say that it will change the way you interact with your home, these systems are more useful, convenient and offer more peace of mind.

We’ve picked five of our favourite benefits of having a state-of-the-art Protect My Property Smart Homes security system:

1: It's always on

For more than just break-ins, smart home security systems work for you continually. Traditional security systems only work if you remember to arm the system and someone tries to break-in and are also prone to false alarms. A Smart Homes security system keeps you aware of what's happening at home with real-time alerts, even when disarmed.

Alerts can tell you when your teenager arrives home from school, when a door or window is left open too long, or the medicine cabinet has been opened. It can show you who's at your front door, and let you talk to them, through a video doorbell. You can see a live HD video feed of your kids in the back garden while you're cooking dinner or receive a notification that a person has been identified on your driveway linked to a saved video clip.

Unlike other traditional systems, our Smart Homes system lets you know what’s happening at your property regardless if your system is armed or not. The system will learn your normal activity patterns and our unexpected activity alert will notify you to anything unusual events outside of this pattern including detecting motion or opening the front door late at night.

In the event of an emergency, the 85dBm siren will sound and instant alerts can also be sent directly to your smartphone via push notification or/and email to make yourself and other users aware of the situation.

Other connected devices can also be linked to your Smart Homes system including smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and alert button wristband and pendant. These devices can be configured to sound the siren or send a notification to a chosen smartphone or tablet to alert friends or family in situations such as an elderly relative having a fall, intruders spotted in your home or if high levels of smoke or carbon monoxide are detected.

2: It's easier to use

The wireless and simple nature of the system means you can install the devices yourself in your own time using an intuitive step-by-step wizard guiding you through the process from configuration to mounting of the equipment. Or, if you would rather someone set it up for you, our fully trained staff are available to attend and complete the job for you.

All of the devices that connect to Protect My Property’s Smart Homes hub are wireless, which makes every aspect of owning them easier. WiFi cameras can be quickly integrated into your system for an additional layer of security and awareness. With everything connected through a single mobile app, it's easy to use, and you can see what's happening at home through your smartphone or tablet anytime.

Old security technology is clunky and restrictive. By contrast, a smart security system conveniently integrates into your life through an app on your smartphone or tablet. A single tap on your phone is all it takes to arm or disarm your system, switch on your lighting and even unlock your door. You'll never need to race through your front door to disarm a bleeping panel again.

3: It's reliable, safe and up to date

Unlike standalone connected devices, our Smart Homes Security systems are rigorously built to European Standards (EN50131) and is engineered to ensure that an emergency signal gets through –  even if the power is out, the internet is down, or your panel is smashed.

A dedicated mobile data connection, working alongside your broadband connection, protects against common vulnerabilities of traditional systems, like cutting the telephone or broadband cable from the outside of the home, which renders a traditional system useless by sending an alert when an armed security system goes offline after detecting activity.

With an increasing number of devices in your home, your privacy in terms of data being transmitted over the internet is becoming more of a daily concern. With our Smart Homes security systems, your data is transferred and held on fully encrypted servers which are routinely tested by third party security professionals to ensure the highest levels of data protection for you and your family.

Technology is also moving at a much faster pace than ever before, leaving many of your devices out of date within only a matter of months after purchasing them. This can be frustrating and costly. We regularly update our app and firmware, so you know that your software is always up to date, plus we often add great new features!

4: It goes everywhere with you

With traditional home security systems, you must remember to set the system before you leave; arming it is impossible without turning around and going back. Smart home security systems eliminate that problem by providing instant access and control though the smartphone app. You can arm the system from anywhere and it will send you a reminder if you forget. And, when you integrate connected locks with your system, you can also lock the door from anywhere too.

Whether you're quickly popping to the shops or are hundreds of miles away from home, you can stay connected to your home with smart security. That means peace of mind and convenience, no matter where you are.

Even if there is an issue at home, it's easier to manage with a smart security system. You can get immediate notifications that can include images and video clips to show you what's going on. If you need to give a neighbour or contractor emergency access, you can unlock your front door as easily as if you were there in person.

5: It makes your whole home smart

As well as keeping you safe and secure, there's another huge benefit to smart home security: it gives you the foundation of a complete smart home.

Start with our basic Alert package and then build your system up over time in line with your needs; or go for our Dynamic package which can turn your home into a complete smart home within the space of a couple of hours.

Over time you can add more devices including smart lighting and smart plugs to automate your home and cameras to keep an eye on your children or pets and provide additional peace of mind.

When integrated with any compatible Danalock V3 Z-Wave lock, you can create a rule to lock and unlock your door each time you arm or disarm the system or unlock remotely to allow access to a family member or friend. Link the locks to your scenes so you can be sure the doors are locked each night when you go to sleep. Find out more about smart locks here.

You can also integrate with other smart devices including Apple Watch, Siri, Sonos Speakers and Amazon FireTV giving you even more functionality including controlling your home with your voice or directly from your wrist.
